About Network Video Recorder

An NVR (network video recorder) records IP cameras over the network rather than over coaxial cable. Videoline's NVRs come in 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 channels, from compact units with one hard drive to 3U recorders that hold sixteen. Every model conforms to ONVIF version 2.4, so it records other makers' IP cameras as well as Videoline's, with preview and playback at up to 12MP. Video goes out over HDMI and VGA, and the recorder can be watched remotely through a web browser, CMS software or a mobile app.

Questions about Network Video Recorder

Can a Videoline NVR record other brands' IP cameras?

Yes: every Videoline NVR conforms to ONVIF version 2.4 and supports multi-brand network cameras. ONVIF is an open industry standard that lets IP cameras and recorders from different makers find and stream to one another, so a camera that also conforms to ONVIF can be recorded alongside Videoline's own IP cameras.

Which Videoline NVRs support H.265 cameras?

Every Videoline NVR from 16 channels up decodes H.265; the 4- and 8-channel VH6104-SAN, VH6108-SAN, VH6204-SAN and VH6208-SAN list H.264 and MJPEG only. H.265 needs less bandwidth and storage than H.264 for the same picture, so on those four, run the cameras in H.264, which many of Videoline's IP cameras also offer.

What is the difference between a 1U, 1.5U, 2U and 3U NVR?

The U is the recorder's height in rack units, 1U being 1.75 inches, and a taller chassis holds more hard drives. Videoline's 1U NVRs hold two drives and the 1.5U models four; the 2U models hold eight and the 3U models sixteen, both with an eSATA port for external storage. The compact VH6104-SAN and VH6108-SAN hold one.

Can a Videoline NVR record 4K cameras?

Yes: Videoline's NVRs preview and play back cameras of up to 12MP, and 4K (3840 x 2160) is 8MP. The 2U and 3U models list recording at up to 12MP as well. Each NVR takes up to 320 Mbps of incoming video, which sets how many high-resolution IP cameras it can record at once.
