About Cameras
Videoline makes two kinds of CCTV camera. HD cameras send high-definition video over coaxial cable to a DVR, which suits upgrading an existing analog system. IP cameras send it over a computer network to an NVR, are usually powered by PoE, and many detect intrusion and tripwire events on board. Both come in bullet, eyeball and dome housings from 1MP to 8MP with infrared night vision, alongside PTZ speed domes with up to 36x optical zoom.
HD cameras and IP cameras compared
| Type | Cable | Records on | Power | Resolutions | PTZ zoom | Upgrade path |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HD camera | Coaxial | DVR | Usually a separate supply | 1MP to 8MP | 25x or 30x | Reuses analog coaxial cabling |
| IP camera | Computer network | NVR, or a Videoline hybrid DVR | Usually PoE, over the same cable | 1MP to 8MP (4K) | 12x to 36x | Records alongside HD cameras on a hybrid DVR |
Questions about Cameras
What is the highest-resolution camera Videoline makes?
Videoline's highest-resolution cameras are 8MP, in both the HD and the IP range. On a network, models such as the PS280-IRD output 3840 x 2160, which is 4K. On coaxial cable, the 8MP HDCVI cameras such as the HC180-IRW deliver 8MP at up to 30 frames per second.
Which Videoline camera sees farthest at night?
The PX83640-SDI IP speed dome sees farthest at night, with infrared LEDs that reach up to 200 m. Several other speed domes, both HD and IP, reach 150 m. Of the cameras that do not pan and tilt, the PS140-IRW and PS150-IRW bullets reach 80 m, and the PN120A-IRW and PN220B-IRD reach 70 m.
What is a PTZ speed dome camera?
A PTZ speed dome is a camera that can be panned, tilted and zoomed remotely, so one camera can follow activity across a wide area. Videoline's have 12x to 36x optical zoom, and models such as the PX83640-SDI pan a continuous 360° and store up to 300 preset positions for a keyboard controller to recall.
What do IP66, IP67 and IK10 mean on a security camera?
IP66 means a camera is dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets, IP67 that it is dust-tight and survives brief immersion in water, and IK10 that its housing withstands the highest grade of impact. Most Videoline cameras are rated IP66 or IP67, and the PS240Z-IRD, PX140F-IRW and PS280D-IRD are IK10 as well.
Can one camera cover a whole room?
Yes: a 360° fisheye camera such as Videoline's PS280D-IRD covers a whole room from one position. It records 8MP and dewarps its round image into flat views, with 20 display modes, and its deep-learning analytics count people, draw heatmaps and manage queues. Its built-in infrared reaches 15 m.
